about

When Guy Fawkes was arrested he initially spoke French to confuse his captors but, after some interrogation, gave his name as John Johnson. His real identity was only revealed when he was searched and a letter was found addressed to Guy Fawkes. After being tortured, he gave up the names of some of his fellow conspirators, and he was hanged, drawn and quartered on 31st January 1606, along with three of them. The group of religious extremists had planned to blow up King James, along with many of his family and closest allies, and kidnap James' 9 year daughter Elizabeth. It was then planned to put her on the throne as Elizabeth II and force her to revert the country to Catholicism. We remember his name !
